Kudos to Republicans in the Missouri General Assembly. According to a published report in today's St. Louis Post-Dispatch, GOP legislators are planning to cut back Governor Matt Blunt's proposed $650 million spending increase by $100 million.Although Blunt is a self-induced lame duck, it still takes courage to stand up to a governor from your own party.
If only Republicans in Washington had done the same thing when they were in control of Congress . . .

Unfortunately, tricky Dick was running both the Senate and the executive branch.
I would say, unfortunately, the Republicans were trying to outspend the Democrats in an effort to "move to the center" and try to get themselves reelected at the expense of the country. Spending your tax money and my tax money to get themselves reelected is one thing that Republicans and Democrats in Washington usually seem to agree on.
