In defense of Bush, Souter was conservative, but shifted to the liberal that he is today. The nomination of Clarence Thomas was good, as he was a solid conservative, as evidenced by the ridiculous character assassination by the feminists and liberals.
I'm not so sure that he actually was conservative. He was a pretty unknown state court judge, pushed on Bush by John Sununu. Nevertheless, as it turns out, nominating Souter to the Supreme Court was, in actuality - not necessarily intention, a HUGE mistake.
And W's worst mistake? We'll have to allow history to be the judge of that. Time will tell.
